Michail was born mid 60’s in Piraeus, literally at sea, being the second son of Capt. Christos and Angela, both immigrants from Constantinople and the Island of Mytilini, who after much hard work and sacrifice had bought and operated in Piraeus Port the launch boat “Vosporos”. On the sudden death of Capt. Christos, widow Angela with her two underaged sons, Ignatios and Michail, continued the hard work and added soon in their “fleet” two new constructions, the Tug “Christos” (1977) and the floating crane “Two Brothers” (1980).About 40 years after Spanopoulos Group, still owned and managed by the two brothers and their family members, engages more than 800 personnel and consists of about 70 tugs, 100 floating self propelled Cranes, barges (floating and submersible), floating cranes[1]excavators, launch boats, jack Up , self elevating platforms and two shipyards in proximity of Piraeus Port, one specialized in ship yachts and the other one in commercial Vessels having capacity for vessels up to 232m.Utilizing the dynamic of the fleet of multipurpose vessels, the Group has undergone a gradual progress to be in line with the current and optimum marine industry practices.
